Vaccines are biological preparations that introduce weakened or inactivated forms of pathogens (viruses or bacteria) into the body with the purpose of stimulating the immune system to develop immunity without causing illness.
Many vaccines achieve over 90% protection rates, saving millions of lives worldwide.
Common Misconceptions:
Vaccines do not cause autism
Vaccines are not linked to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome)
Vaccines do not weaken the immune system
Flu vaccines are typically no cost to insured patients.
In Missouri, most vaccines do not require a prescription.
Vaccine technology is ongoing. Advancements aim to develop more effective and convenient vaccines.
